Building a Pelican (March 17th 2001, part 2)

March 17th 2001

Week 37 of our follow-up of the building of a Pelican Sport from Ultravia Aero International Inc.

Windshield installation
During my visit this week, work was going on ajusting the windshield.
Windshield installation
The windshield is shipped oversized.
Numerous adjustments are needed to insure a perfect fit. But it aswers a question I've been asking myself for a while : how could they glue the contour parts in place without knowing the exact dimension of the windshield? In fact it's the windshield that is ajusted to the frame not the opposite.
Windshield Jean-Luc Arsenault applies selfstick white paper stripes were adjustments are still needed.
The windshield is covered with a protective film. Thus it can be manipulated without risk of scratching the surface.
Windshield adjustments Windshield adjustments
Using the white stripes as guidelines Jean-Luc uses a file or a router to progressively remove excess on the identified zones.
Windshield installation Between each adjustments, the windshield is put back in place with caution.

The strap holds the rounded shape windshield in place.

Ready for paint
The other parts wait for the paint shop...
