Heater hoses
"What's that hole in the firewall for?"
... to let the heater hoses through.

Seen from to inside of the cockpit. the heater unit looks like an octopus with its hoses. Heater unit

To the left, two hoses connect to the exterior air intake two other hoses wil connect to air vents at the base of the windshield to unfog the inner surface.
